If you’ve lived in Melbourne, you will know that there are times when you just need to escape somewhere warmer. Like Noosa. I should say consistently warmer, as we do get warm days in Melbourne but it’s always a gamble whether it will last.
Last week, I returned to Melbourne after a blissful few days up in Noosa with my beautiful friend and sun-worshipper Kylie Gulliver. Located in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast, Noosa really is a tropical paradise. Flying in from frosty Melbourne, I felt like I was in a different country. It was just the escape I needed to thaw out and get my nature fix.
Where we stayed
We stayed at The Sebel Noosa, which is right on Hastings Street surrounded by restaurants, cafes and just moments from the Noosa main beach. The hotel consists of serviced apartments, and ours had two beautiful rooms, two bathrooms and a lounge area with a kitchen as well. The beds were incredibly comfortable and I slept like a baby in the special pyjamas that were gifted to us on arrival.
The hotel is fully equiped with two outdoor swimming pools, a jacuzzi, a little gym, private balconies and free undercover parking. We spent our mornings laying by the pool on the lounges and day beds before heading to the beach.
On our final day, the lovely hotel staff arranged a day trip for us through the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Kevin Lagdon at Champers Rolls Royce and Classic Car Hire took us on the trip in a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible. Definitely a bucket list moment, driving up into the mountains with the wind in our hair and sun beaming down on us. We stopped at Flame Hill Vineyard for lunch and a taste of their wine. The rosé was super fresh and perfect in the warm weather and I also had the ‘farm salad’ made with vegetables from the Flame Hill farm and garden.
Café Le Monde – They have a varied menu that includes nutritious salads like the soba noodle salad with greens and kimchi and the Asian leaf salad with black sesame, buckwheat noodles and a chilli ginger dressing. The duck fat chips were also delicious.
El Capitano – Their fresh pizzas are made with slow fermented sourdough bases. I don’t eat a lot of gluten but when I do, I prefer sourdough because I find that it digests better. You can also get some good side salads to go with if you want to inject some more vegetables.
Blended Health Bar – This little bar serves up juices, smoothies, raw desserts and ‘nice-cream’. I had the Ferrero nice-cream which was made with frozen banana, coconut water, cacao and hazelnuts.
Aromas – Situated out the front of The Sebel, it’s a great option for a simple breakfast. I had poached eggs on local sourdough with one of the most generous servings of smashed avocado I’ve ever received. It was heaven.
Massimo’s Gelateria – Not so healthy, but so so good. Worth a visit for amazing gelato because life is all about balance.
