One of the easiest ways to get smoother, brighter skin is to exfoliate. You’d be surprised how quickly dead skin cells can build up to leave your skin looking a bit dull.
I’ve also recently discovered, thanks to the ladies at Clinica-Lase, that exfoliating your skin before applying moisturiser is really important. It ensures that your skin actually absorbs the product rather than just sitting on top of the dead skin cells.
There are lots of different ways to go about exfoliating your face, so I’ve put together a little list of what I do to give you some ideas.
How to exfoliate your face
Use a wet washcloth
You can gently exfoliate your skin daily by using a wet washcloth to remove your cleanser. Just apply a cleanser onto your skin, then use the wet washcloth in circular motions to remove the cleanser and gently sweep away dead skin cells. Trilogy make a great natural cleanser that comes with an organic cotton washcloth. You can buy it at most chemists and some supermarkets or online.
Make your own face scrub
If I don’t have my usual exfoliating products with me, I make my own face scrub by mixing some sugar into my cleanser before applying it to my face. I gently massage it onto my skin using circular motions and then rinse well. It’s best to avoid using body scrubs on your face as these are normally made with harsher, larger granules that can leave your face red and irritated.
Invest in some products that exfoliate
For the past few months, I’ve been using a combination of cosmeceutical grade products from Clinica-Lase to specifically address my skin’s needs. They’ve been working really well and I’ve noticed that my skin is much more balanced as a result (less oily/dry patches and less breakouts). I cleanse with Aspect Dr Deep Clean Facial Cleanser morning and night and follow this with Cosmedix Purity Balance Exfoliating Prep Toner before moisturising. Then once a week, I use Aspect Dr Fruit Enzyme Mask, which leaves my skin super soft.
Treat yourself to an exfoliating treatment
Ever since I had acne a few years back, I’ve been having semi-regular facial treatments to keep my skin on track. It’s not something that everyone needs, and there are plenty of ways to look after your skin at home, but I’ve personally found that it has made a difference. Recently, I’ve been getting my treatments done at Clinica-Lase and usually get some sort of peel depending on my skin’s condition, followed by Société’s Rejuvenating Peptide Gel Mask which leaves your skin feeling incredible.
